No. You can try a free week of classes to see if BJJ is right for you before making any commitment.
Gi classes are done in the traditional BJJ uniform, which includes a jacket, pants, and belt. It simulates grappling in everyday clothing by allowing grips on sleeves, collars, and pants.
If you’re attending your first class and don’t have a gi—no problem! You can train in comfortable exercise clothing, or borrow a gi from the club.
No-Gi classes are simply Jiu-Jitsu classes without the gi. Instead, you wear athletic clothing designed for safety and movement. Ideally, you’ll have:
Shorts or spats (tight-fitting leggings) without pockets, zippers, or buttons.
A rashguard (tight-fitting athletic shirt) or t-shirt. Spats and rashguards offer compression and protection from mat burn. For your first class, shorts, sweatpants, or yoga pants with a t-shirt or rashguard are fine. No tank tops, short shorts, or clothing with zippers.
